Together with the whole team, we went to the GERLI 2025 conference in Strasbourg, France. Jeroen G and Flore both presented their work in an oral presentation, while Melanie, Sam, Koen, and Brecht presented a poster on their research. these were a very informative few days on lipid research, even ending with a best presentation prize for Flore.

Fleur  and Flore recently attended the 9th European workshop on Lipid mediators in Edinburgh, where leading researchers gathered to discuss the latest advancements in biochemistry, molecular biology and physiology of lipids as signaling molecules, as well as their involvement in inflammation, and their specific roles in several disease conditions. 

The BogieLab celebrates not one, not two, not three, but 4 FWO grants to conclude the year 2023. First of all, we celebrate Sam, since he received an FWO junior Post-doctoral fellowship.

Next up, a big congratulations to Brecht and Koen for receiving their FWO PhD Fellowship. Finally, Huge congrats also to Jeroen Bogie for receiving FWO funding for his project.

Multiple members of the Bogie Lab went to the 18th annual GERLI meeting. During these 3 days, Both Jeroen B and Jeroen G presented their work. A very interesting meeting filled with a broad spectrum of fundamental lipidomics research.

The Bogie lab (Jeroen B, Sam, Flore, Jeroen G, and Koen) presented their work at the BIOMED research seminar today. A big succes and a lot of laughs from the audience!

Melanie Loix and Louis Hendrikx got married today. Amazing ceremony and party! It is astonishing how much you learn about people after a few glasses of Stella Artois.

Flore, Fleur, and Jeroen attended the DNM 2025 meeting, where they co-hosted Session 31, “Lipids as Regulators of Brain Immunity and Repair,” together with Prof. Dr. Chun-Xia Yi (AMC Amsterdam). Fleur, Melanie, and Jeroen presented their work on how bioactive lipids, ubiquitination, and myelin internalization influence microglial physiology in the inflamed central nervous system.

To further build on his success, we congratulate our Post-doctoral researcher Sam Vanherle on achieving the 'Best Thesis Award' at the MS research days 2024 Genk for his study on the fundamental role of lipids in MS pathology. Well done!

Our research paper on the regenerative role of extracellular vesicles on macrophage function in the brain, as well as two reviews on inflammasome activation in autoinflammatory disorders and pyrin inflammasome activation have been accepted. Congratulations to all researchers for these milestones, especially Sam, Jeroen G and Flore.

Jeroen Guns has been awarded a travel grant to embark on a three-month external research visit at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, starting at the end of February 2024. During this period, he will leverage genetically modified animals to investigate the influence of protein acetylation on phagocyte function and central nervous system remyelination in experimental models of multiple sclerosis.

The man, the myth, the legend, Sam Vanherle, succesfully defended his thesis, entitled "Lipids in control of remyelination in multiple sclerosis", today. Congrats Sam!

Our manuscript, entitled "Fatty acid desaturation by SCD1 controls regulatory T cell differentiation and autoimmunity" was accepted in CMI today. Congrats to everybody involved!

A great start to the new year for the Bogie Lab (Kirsten and Jeroen)! Together with Werend Boesmans, they secured additional essential resources to study the impact of miRNAs on microglial physiology and remyelination.​

After a highly successful 2023, 2024 already starts off with 3 Charcot Research Funds for the BogieLab, providing extra essential resources in order to perform state-of-the-art research on Multiple Sclerosis. Congratulations Jeroen G, Jeroen B and Sam.

During a final conference of the year for our lab, Sam and Flore presented their work through poster presentations. A great opportunity to discuss their recent findings.

Only a few months after the PhD defense of Sam Vanherle, Melanie Loix also defended her thesis, entitled "Disturbed lipid metabolism underlies immune cell dysfunction in multiple sclerosis", succesfully. Congrats Melanie! And best of luck in your future scientific endeavors.

Jeroen received the "Young Researcher Grant" from the Queen Elisabeth Medical Foundation at the royal palace in Brussels today. Awarded by princes Astrid & Hein Deprez. We are honored!
